Ha Hansipak Bayhu sin Samin

Ha tiyap-tiyap waktu maka-atud kita niyu pa saamin, kakitaan natuh ruun in baran natu’. Kakita’an ta ruun bang marayaw na ka in panamung natu’; bang malanu’ da ka in pamayhu’an sin kita. Iban bang ha sawpama awn lummi’ kakita’an, kaga-usan kalanu-an sin kita niyu. Saa’, biyariin na baha’ bang in lummi’ yaunna saruun-duun na ha saamin iban laagi’ mahunit na siya iygun, unu ka, kakita’an ta pa baha’ in bunnal lanuh sin pamayhu’an sin kita?

Bihaan da isab in hantang sin mga tau naghuhula’ duun ha hambuuk kawman. Kakitaan mu in bunnal dayaw-lingkat sin hula’ yaun duun ha dayaw sin mga tau naghuhula’ kaniya. Misan na isab biyariin in lingkat sin lupa’ yaun: nalilibut sin kabuwd-buwran; nahihipu’ sin dugaing-dugaing kakahuyan iban mga bungang-kahuy nila; liylikusan sin kalaud-lauran agad na in indaginis binatang duun; bang isab in mga tau ha kawman yaun hilu-hala’, wayruun tuud jumatu marayaw ha lupah yaun malaingkan in mauppas na hadja.

Ha waktu natuh bihayaun, ha hula’ ini Mindanaw, landu’ na tuud in taud sin kahilu-halaan. Dih tana hilamud in mga makadugal-dugal pagtakaw sin siyn sin kawman iban sin mga unu-unu na ruun kangiy-an hadja in diyrihil kaatuh niyu.

Mayta’ baha’ bihayni na hadja in kiykitah natuh ha tiyap-tiyap pag-gi’sung natuh ha kukulangan? Di’ na baha’ ini kaganti’an pa hikarayaw? Hisiyu baha tuud in matuwp susunun ha katan sin ini? Amu baha’ sila mga kama’asan natuh way naparayaw in hula’ tagnah, atawa baha’ kitaniyu way misan nahinang, natabang unu-unu?

Pila ngagatus tahun na hadja in naglabay; nagsubli-subli na hadja in mga kanakura’an naglingkud iban naghinang ha parinta, huwat-malaingkan tittiyuh atawaka agun wayruun da tuud nagjatu karayawan ba’gu pa hula’ natuh. Daing ha waktu pa sin ka’apu’apuan natuh sampay mari bihaa’un pa waktu natuh, masi-masi ra in mga kahilu-halaan naasaplag. Yari kita niyu bihaun ha Huling Jaman bahgu iban yari bihaun ha mga lima natu in kunsum-susuwngun sin lupa’ ini.

Subay dih kitaniyu maya’ sin lumaus pa in katan ini pa mga Jaman sumunud katuh niyu: pa mga susuwngun anak-apu’ sin kitaniyu. Subay ha bihaun pa tumagna’ na asal kitaniyu huminang sin unu-unu na in marapat hinangun. Tumali’ na asal kitaniyu sin unu-unu na in hikatabang natuh pa kawman iban pa hula’ natuh kataan. Bang natuh di’ pa tagna’an bihaun, kuhnu pa? Bang kita niyu di’ pa huminang, hisiyu pa in tagaran natuh? Ayaw na kitaniyu maghuwat-huwat ha tabang sin kaibanan tau biyah sin mga Milikan. Hula’ natuh ini—kitaniyu subay in muna-muna magtiyuku-tiyukuhi ha hikarayaw sin katan! Maghambuuk kitaniyu iban maghiyati-hiyatihi; bang diyh, tartantu ha mahuli way na tuud suwngan sin lupa’ ini; iban kitaniyu ra in muwih sasusun-susun iban saluwgih-luwgih tau ha katan!

In pagparayaw sin hula’ mabilang hambuuk amaanat dakulah iban panungbas kaatuh sin Tuhan Mahamulliyah. Piyaratung niya kitaniyu pa hula’ ini (Mindanaw) bukun ha supaya binsanaun atawa pahunitan in kitaniyu. Piniy’ niya kitaniyu mabilang ha mga tau diy ha Mindanaw pasal in siya, amuin nakakaingat sin katan pakaradja’an, kayngatan niya sin tuput kitaniyu ra, labay ha tabang niya, in makaparayaw sin kahaalan sin hula’ ini! Kayngatan niya sin awn tuud mahinang natuh ha hikasambu, hikatindug sin kahanungan iban kasalamatan diy ha lupa’ ini kailu!

Sulayan natu’ mamintang balik ha katan sin kiyalabayan sin kamaasan natuh agad na in kitaniyu. Ha tiyap-tiyap hilu-hala’ wayruun magpangdaug’ pagdaugun kitaniyu katan. Iban ha tiyap-tiyap isab sangsa’ sin tau pa hinang hikarayaw, misan biyariin in nahut niya, awn hadja tungbas sin Tuhan pahala’ hikarayaw da isab iban kahayangan.

Mamintang kitaniyu, mamikil marayaw. Ba’gu kita madtu mangdayaw sin Hula’ natuh, lilingun ta na’a in baran ta. Ha pasaalan tartantu kita nayan in saamin sin lupa’ ini. Lawagun natuh na’a subay in hansipak bayhu’ sin saamin, amuin labiy hikarayaw, bukun gammayan hika-kangiyh. Lilayun natuh inut-inut bang unu na mayan in awn bingkuk duun, pabuntulun natuh; bang awn kangiy’an, dayawun natuh; iban bang awn lummih lanu’an natuh marayaw. Duun dayan ha baran sin kitaniyu tumagnah in kataan. Piy-un natuh subay in hikarayaw bukun hadja pa baran sin kita, malaingkan agad na in ha hikarayaw sin katan ha hula’ ta. Islamic Science

The rise and dominance of the Western thinkers in the field of science and philosophy is undeniable. Their contributions are fundamentally significant in today’s world (which is to disregard religion, belief, and faith). Without any exaggeration, most of the Muslims are aware of the Western achievements more than their own thinkers. Unbelievably, there are Muslim thinkers that are entrapped in this phenomenon. They are arguably in support of the ideas of the Western thinkers while neglecting the notions of their own people.

Dualistic Approach (Modern Science)

To begin with the argument, it is interesting to point out the ideologies of the Positivists on the issue that they are propagating, that is the modern science. Evidently, the one-sided stand on the concept of modern science is disgracefully condemning the other. For instance, if one believes that science is fully objective, one is simply suggesting that God doesn’t exist. One is simply condemning the Creations of God. As a matter of fact, modern scientists and Positivists are inclining to these ideologies. For the modern scientists, science is absolute and the true causal agent. They deny the existence of God and matter is independent from the Creator. However, a number of them were suggesting the existence of God, but no direct contact from His creations. Their secular approach toward science is hammering the Divine belief and rejecting the true causal agent, which is God. They also believe that science is universal that can be true in any time and space. Hence, the dualistic approach of the modern scientists is trouncing the basic belief to religion.

Tawhidic Approach (Islamic Science)

It is interesting to point out that during the Dark Ages in Europe, many Muslim thinkers in Spain grasped scientific knowledge in which many present-day Muslims are lacking of. Accordingly, from the late ninth century until the fifteenth century, Europe in general was reliant on the intellectually and technologically-superior Muslim culture and borrowed their knowledge from every field of science, including in the field of theology. Thus, many of the prominent Western scholars obtained their knowledge and ideas from the work that were done by previous Muslim scholars in various fields of science. Unfortunately, a tragedy happened to the Muslim scholars in which many of these Muslims were no longer keen in studying the many fields of sciences they once excelled in.

Back then during the Dark Ages in Europe, Muslim scholars studied the natural sciences with gusto and they were able to create many scientific inventions and scientific theories and principles. This is because the Holy Qur’an has encouraged Muslims to seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave. It often repeatedly mentions in its verses for the people to reflect on nature and other creations of God. To further stress this point, Ziauddin Sardar (1998) once said, “The Muslim inspiration for the study of nature comes straight from the Qur’an. The Qur’an specifically and repeatedly asks Muslims to investigate systematically natural phenomena, not simply as a vehicle for understanding nature, but also as a means for getting close to God.”
With this Islamic view of learning knowledge from nature or the physical world in mind, studying science seemed logical and only natural to the Muslims then. Before, it was often practiced by many Muslims as seen from their countless scientific inventions. Therefore, upon hearing the term “Islamic science” for the first time, I initially thought that it was redundant due to the notion that, as Muslims, we consider all types of knowledge, including science, to be Islamic already and to be espoused by the Holy Qur’an for us to learn. In other words, it is redundant in the sense that we Muslims already acknowledge that science is not secular. However, upon further reflection, I realized that Muslim scholars still and must need to use the term “Islamic science” in order to differentiate it from the “modern” or “secular” science which does not reserve any place for religion in it. This concept of modern science in the West is godless and has a materialist way of thinking. This contradicts with the Islamic approach on science. Because of the secularist approach of the Western scientists, the term and concept of Islamic science has become legitimate and meaningful. It is meaningful to mention because Allah (SWT) gave advice and inspiration to the Muslims to study nature which came directly from the Holy Qur’an. Muslims are urged by Allah (SWT) to pay attention to His signs or His creations to be able to understand the creation of life and also to get closer to Him. Ultimately, the greatest achievement that a man could gain from learning the natural sciences is to be able to know the Truth.

“It is He who has made the sun (source of) radiance and the moon a light (reflected), and has determined for it phases so that you may know how to compute years and to measure (time). Allah has created this in truth and righteousness, expounding His signs for those who know. Indeed, in the alternation of night and day and in what Allah has created in the heavens and on the earth, there are real signs for people who are conscious of Him” (Chapter 10, Verses:5-6)

Indeed, in understanding these signs and this nature, we certainly come to understand or know Allah. These signs are the seen realm and Allah (SWT) is the unseen realm. Consequently, the seen realms are the signs of the unseen realms.

Islamic science is actually based on the principle of Tawheed (oneness or unity of God). It means that everything in this world (the seen realms) is linked to the unseen realms (for example: God). This is the major difference between the Western approach of science and the Islamic approach of science. The unity of all things is the purpose of the creations that exist. Modern science believes the only matter is tangible to human being. As to what is existed in the unseen world is not acceptable and not even existed in reality. Allah (SWT) again telling us;

“He is God, beside Whom there is no (other) god. Knowing the unseen and the visible; He is the Merciful, the Mercy-giver” (Chapter 59, Verse: 22)

Western scientists deny the involvement of God and the unseen realms (i.e., the spirit) with physical science. They rejected the Tawheedic approach to cover the ideas of Islam, that is, in reality nothing really exists in real forms.
One field of science, the study of metaphysics, is actually one of the stunning points of Islamic science. But this is rejected by modern scientists when in fact metaphysics is considered as the highest form of knowledge. Absolute knowledge cannot be attained by human being and only Allah (SWT) Who has the power of knowing all things. As He stated in the Holy Qur’an;

Allah has knowledge about the (final) Hour (i.e. the Hour of Judgment). He sends down rain and knows what all wombs contain. Yet no person knows what he will earn tomorrow, nor does any person know in what land he will die. Still Allah is aware, informed.
(Chapter 31, Verse: 34)

Thomas Aquinas also said that. “Scientific knowledge is not essential to attain happiness.” Therefore, there must be something else that people need to know in order to attain happiness in this life. As Muslims, we know that the attainment of happiness does not end in this life. If God wills, it could also be attained by many Muslims--male and female--in the Hereafter. When it comes to seeking knowledge on the Truth and the Hereafter, it can be found not only in the Holy Qur’an, but also from the natural and physical sciences as well as from natural phenomena. Thus, the term and concept of Islamic science includes acknowledging one’s Creator amidst all the scientific facts that one can observe from his/her environment in this world. The seen and unseen realms are inseparable. In Islam, everything in this world is nothing in reality. However, for the modern science, they see only the material world and there is no room for discussion on the matter of unseen. In modern science, what they can observe through scientific way is real. Naquib al-Attas stated that modern science sees things as mere things, and that it has reduced the study of the phenomenal world to an end in itself. And Allah (SWT) said in the Holy Qur’an;

He (Allah) holds the keys to the unseen; only He knows them. He knows whatever exists on land and at sea; no leaf falls unless He knows it, nor any seed (lies) in the darkness of the earth, nor any tender (shoot) nor any withered (stalk) but it is (predicted) in a clear book.

The religion that guarantees Salvation

There are a lot of the so-called spiritual groups existing all over the Philippines. The head of these spiritual groups claim to be not ordinary beings. Some heads of some spiritual groups claims to have direct communication with God. Some claims to be prophets and messengers of God. The others claim to be son of God and even God himself. Some put up their own religious sects because of the messages they claim to have received from God. Many ignorants on Spiritual Knowledge spent so much to become members hoping for salvation. On the other hand, this is the sign that people are restless longing to return to God after a long separation.

A lot of things to be done before one can claim to be a spiritualist. One also has a lot of discipline and sacrifices to do to become a true spiritualist. To me, a spiritualist is somebody who has unveiled the Spiritual Knowledge or the Hidden Knowledge. Some say they are spiritualists and they know God. They even preach the Knowledge about God and yet they say that there are mysteries surrounding God.

Not one among the spiritual groups or even the religious sects they put up can guarantee salvation. No one among them preach the right and straight way to salvation. No one even preach how to become a true spiritualist.

We dedicate this write-up to everyone who is in search of the Spiritual Knowledge or Hidden Knowledge for him to become a true spiritualist. But first, let me tell you the following, to wit:

1. God talked directly only with Prophet Moses (AS). The rest of the prophets and messengers received messages from God through Arch Angel Gabriel (AS)

2. Prophethood and messengership ended with the last Prophet and Messenger Muhammad (SAW)

3. The affairs of peace and order in the Far East will not come through prophethood and messengership.

There is only one religion instituted by God for mankind to attain salvation. This religion is Dinul Fitra or the Natural Religion. Dinul Fitra or the Natural Religion is the religion of all the Prophets and Messengers of God. Dinul Fitra has four principles: 1. The Knowledge about God; 2. Oneness or unity with God; 3 Faith, and 4. Divine Law. The first three principles exist as a triangle that can be likened to the Christian Trinity where one is equal the others. The first three principles of Dinul Fitra is known as the Hidden Knowledge or Spiritual Knowledge. Behind the first principle of Dinul Fitra or the knowledge about God is the knowledge about the human creation and its purification.

The human being is the highest form of creation, knowing and understanding how the human being is created is also the way to know and understand the Creator. One must be aware that the human being is composed of a body and a soul. One must give equal attention to both his body and soul for them not to separate and leave each other in death. One must love himself first before he can give love to others.

The origin of the body is the four elements of soil, water, air, and fire. The normal creation of the body passed through six stages of light which is the very sense of the Biblical and Qur’anic verse that says that God created the heaven and earth in six days. The four elements became twenty four after passing through six stages. Knowing and understanding the twenty four elements through the six stages is a must. Purifying the twenty four elements through the six stages is also a must for the human being to have a link with his Creator in twenty four hours. At this point, the body and the soul became equal as far as purification is concerned. The meditation in the purification of the body is equal to ten years of worship. The first body was Adam(AS), the Father of all the bodies.

The four ways in the creation of the body: 1.Having no father and mother, Adam (AS); 2.Having a father without a mother, Eve(RA);3.Having a father and a mother, all of you and me, and 4.Having a mother without a father, Jesus(AS).

The soul and destiny are placed on the foetus at four and a half months (more or less) and the foetus begins to have a heart beat.

The first soul was not created. The first soul is the origin of the souls of every human being. Jesus(AS) is the soul of the first soul.

The soul is different from the spirit. The spirit is more minute and subtler than the soul. The spirit is a part of the soul.

The soul is divided into seven spirits according to their functions in the body. When the seven spirits link with the body, the seven spirits allow the body to breath, to move, to see, to hear, to talk, to have desire and the last spirit pumps the heart to allow the blood to circulate all over the body.

The seven spirits group themselves into two. One group is composed of the two spirits that give movement and desire to the body. This group will never leave the body even in death. The other five spirits belong to another group. This group of spirits leaves the body in death. But if the person approaching death reached the knowledge of the secrets of death, this group returns and appears as the sight of the agony of death, the person dies not in pain but in peace and tranquility. Death is the ultimate of all worship.

Behind the second principle of Dinul Fitra or Oneness or unity with God is the knowledge about the two bodies in one soul and the purification of the soul. This is the knowledge behind marriage. The couple have different bodies and different souls. In marriage, two bodies become one and within one soul. Since the origin of the soul of every human being is the uncreated soul, the souls of the couple are sister and brother. Before the marriage ceremony is performed, the souls of the couple must be alienated to avoid incest of the souls. The purification of the sexual relation of the husband and wife is also the purification of the soul. The worship achieved in purifying the soul is as if one worships for one thousand years. Sexual relation of husband and wife is the highest form of worship.

Also behind the second principle of Dinul Fitra or Oneness or Unity with God is the knowledge about the purification of the heart and mind. The heart and mind are purified through meditation, watching the breath in the dark, inhale purifies the heart while exhale purifies the mind. The meditation in the purification of the heart and mind is equal to fifty years, sixty years and seventy years of worship depending on the length of meditation done.

A person whose body, heart, soul and mind are purified is no longer an ordinary person but a spiritualist. The ultimate of being a spiritualist is when his mind is in link with God. This spiritualist has a perfect mind. A perfect mind is capable of searching the past, understanding the present more and unveiling the future.

Ha hadith sin Rasul ( SAW ) : (( تسحروا فان في السحور بركة )) rawaaho Bukhaariy iban Muslim . iban hadith (( استعينوا بطعام السحر على صيام النهار و بقيلولة النهار على قيام الليل )) rawaaho Haakim sahee .
Hati niya : Pagsahoor kamo sabab tanto yan doon ha sahoor in mga barakat .

4.) Sunnat in magpahuli sila ha pagsahoor ha nakatanto sila sin fajer .

Hati niya : In hadith lima parkala maka ba`tal sin puasa amin ghiybah , namiymah iban kaibanan pa in mga ini hadith Da-eyf , in sahee amin kiyabayta hi Imaam Al-maawaradaa Naafe` : in paragan niya hati niya in naba`tal amin karayawan sin puasa bukon amin Puasa . Allahotaala A`lam .

6.) Sunnat ha namumuasa in pu`puon niya in hawanapso niya amin hikaba`tal sin puasa niya , iban sin daing ha mga panghamothamot , iban pangita pa mangi , iban pagsa`gid ginpaisan , iban pangdungog ha hika sob sin nafso mangdahi pa bukon marayaw , iban pagdungog kalangan .

7.) Mustahab in pagpaygo Junob biya` da isab sin babae guwa daing ha pagbulanan niya iban nifas ha di` pa dumatong in subo ha supaya madawhat niya in panagnaan sin puasa .

8.) Mustahab in paghijaamah .

9.) Mustahab in mamong kaw ha wakto mo mamuka :

Allaahomma laka sumto wa alaa rijkika aftarto .
Hati niya : Yaa Allah kaymo in piyuasa ko iban in piyagbukaan ko daing ha rijjiki mo .

10.) Mustahab in makapabuka namumuasa .

Ha hadith sin Rasul ( SAW ) : (( من فطر صائما فله اجر صائم و لا ينقص من اجر صائم شيء )) rawaaho Termidziy sahee .
Hati niya : hi siyo in makapa buka namumuasa na awn karayawan niya biya` da isab sin puasa sin tao napabuka niya iban in napabuka niya yaon di`da isab karagdagan in karayawan niya .

11.) Mustahab ha namumuasa in patauron niya in sarakka niya ha bulan puasa .

Ha hadith sin Rasul ( SAW ) daing kan Anas ( kiyaridaan siya sin Allahotaala )
قيل يا رسول الله اي صدقة افضل ؟ قال : صدقة رمضان . rawaaho Tirmidziy .
Hati niya : Na-asubo in Rasuwlollah , uno sarakka laong na in pinaka afdal ? sabda sin Rasuwlollah : sarakka laong na ha bulan puasa . sabab ha bulan puasa lipat in karayawan ha lawman niya .

12.) Mustahab ha namumuasa in patauron niya in bassa niya Qur-aan .

Hadith sin Rasul ( SAW ) ha Bukhaariy iban Muslim : ان جبريل عليه السلام – كان يلقى النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم – في كل سنة في رمضان حتى ينسلخ فيعرض عليه النبي القران .
Hati niya : tanto in jebril malaikat magbaak iban Rasuwlollah sakahaba tahon ha bulan ramadhan sambil mag-ukat sila iban bassahon sin Rasuwlollah ha jebrel in katilingbos Qur-aan .

13.) Mustahab ha namumuasa in patauron niya in “ E`tikaaf “ ha bulan Puasa .

Ha hadith sin Rasuwlollah daing kan Muslim (( انه صلى الله عليه و سلم كان يجتهد في العشر الاواخر ما لا يجتهد في غيره )) .
Hati niya : naglugto tuod in Rasuwl ( SAW ) ha hangpoo kahinapuasan sin bulan puasa ha wala niya kiyapaglugtuan da tuod biya` sin mapuas daing ha hika hangpo kahinapusan sin puasa .

PEARLS OF LUPAH SUG

The homeland of the Tausugs is called Lupah Sug*. Today, it is widely known as Sulu. The history of Lupah Sug is very rich. It is the birthplace of Islam in the Philippines, the seat of the first organized state in this country, the land of the most powerful sultanate, the home of unconquered people and the graveyard of colonizers.

The title “ Pearl Of The Orient Seas” belongs to Lupah Sug literally and figuratively. The largest pearl on earth was found in her waters. Lupah Sug has been the center of the pearl trade since 1800s. Majority of uncultured pearls still come from Lupah Sug waters up to this day. And the pearls of Lupah Sug are still the most highly sought and highly priced product of this trade.

One of the seven seas was named after Lupah Sug (Sulu Sea). And it is the playground of her children who are rightly called Tausug which means“ People Of The Living Current,” while the other one is called Samalaut meaning “companion of the sea.” They both play with pearls as children play with marbles. Outsiders have since come and taken these marbles away.

Lupah Sug is a mystical place and her people are mystics. Her people were chosen by the friends of Allah to inherit the pearls of spiritual teachings before they went home to God. The graveyards of these spiritual masters still exist today in her mountains. The history of the Philippines began with the arrival of these masters to Lupah Sug, so it may not be farfetched to say that it might end in this land.

You may never find a place on earth where majority of the people seek God as much as the people of Lupah Sug do. Each of them strive to seek the truth of God, come close to Him and has had mystical experiences of this closeness. It is engrained in their innermost being that they wholly “belong to Allah and to Allah they return.” And this sense of belonging is the badge of honor of every Tausug, his own self-esteem and his precious pearl that even his fellow Tausug may never come to know.

He calls this pearl Ma’rifatullah ( knowledge of Allah). It is his greatest hidden treasure. It is strictly guarded like a secret from outsiders, and yet you can seldom find a group of Tausug that do not talk about this treasure among themselves.

Regardless of what is happening around them, “Ma’rifatullah” has bonded them together in war and in peace. The real reason why Tausugs have a glorious history is this knowledge. It is also the reason why they can never be annihilated. This is their true treasure which can never be destroyed nor taken away from them.

Outsiders may have taken all the pearls of Lupah Sug from her seas, but they can never take one spiritual pearl from any Tausug on earth.

Countless legends and stories abound in Lupah Sug. Some are often heard while the others are no longer told. Tausugs largely rely on oral tradition up to now. Even though they have the Jawi, there is practically no Jawi material to be found today unless in archives. Were these destroyed, burned or taken away by pirates and terrorists from other lands? Is this the reason why the history of Lupah Sug is generally written by her enemies? It is very possible.

In a way, oral tradition has protected her history from being corrupted completely. But Tausugs cannot afford to live alone on oral tradition in the midst of an information age. Tausugs should begin recording, preserving and protecting their history before other people steal it completely. The loss of Jawi should never happen again.

Today, the Tausugs are experiencing an awakening. After all, we are a people who never accepted defeat, who were never divided in hearts and spirit. We share the same hope, grievances and aspirations for our homeland. All the pains and anxieties that the Tausugs are experiencing now are merely birthpangs for the rise of a new nation.

The Slow Move Forward

“One day at a time--this is enough. Do not look back and grieve over the past for it is gone ..."

As a Tausug, the past is a defining source of identity and pride. It is no surprise to hear us talking and taking pride about our past and hegemony. Despite of our place these days being labelled as a "no man's land" or "war zone", we pride ourselves of having a centralized government system pre-dating the current Republic by 5oo years.

While Manila and Cebu were backwater villages, Sulu was trading and hobnobbing with Asian and European empires. Our Sultan is accorded an 18-gun salute by the British army in Singapore, a cousin of Brunei royalty, recognized by the Emperor of the Ottoman Empire and did state visits to the Imperial Courts of China. Those who do not understand our sie of history may label as arrogant fools, because of our hesitance to embrace Filipino nationhood. Can you blame us?

So it is hard for us to let go of the past. For the past is something tangible we have that we can be proud of. The past gave us an identity, a dominant place in the history of SE Asia and the prosperity we year today. Take away our past and we are like everyones else ... ordinary people drowned in the Western colonialism and development aggression. Take away our past, you take away our unique identity and the source of our prosperity.

"... And do not be troubled about the future, for it has not yet come..."

Without bringing with us our past, we are weary of the future. In fact, there are those among us who look at the past as our future. Ironic it may seem but it only our past that gives us an assurance of certainty. We have been there and we were govern through the "rule of law" and all of us shared in the prosperiy of this maritime empire.

Whereas, the brand of future paraded before us is banked on previous empty promises, political manuevering, development aggression and full of militarism as a response to our grievances.

Whereas, the brand of the future dangled before us is a unitary system of governance that do not recognize and value our preferred way of governing ourselves; where democracy is based on drowing our minority views, forcing us to accept the domination of an identity that is partly a product of colonialism; and where the national identity itself exclude the diversity of the peoples it forced to ascend.

Whereas, the brand of future forced on us does not offer us guarrantees of freedom, self-determination and prosperity. A future where we can not even determine our own future, our own system of governance, and our own prosperity, without the risk of being slapped by a constitution designed to assimilate religious and cultural minorities into the mainstream identity and collective psyche.

So the challenges for the mainstream society and us today is how to accommodate our cultural minorities. Perhaps, it is time to creative engage in nation-building founded on a tri-national identity that includes the us and the IPs as well.

So the challenges for the mainstream society and us today is how to allow cultural communities like us to govern ourselves in their own homelands, within the framework of a tri-national republic. Afterall, isn't democracy that said, government of the people, by the people and for the people? So why now deny us the same inherent rights?

So the challenges for the mainstream society and us today is how to expand our empathy and compassion - remove the psycho-social and cultural barriers that we have erected to keep us apart.

We need to creatively engaged ourselves at various levels and beyond our politicians and rebel leaders. We need to imagine possibilities for co-existence and eventually shared futures. If we can not imagine these non-violent possibilities, the hawks amongst us are ready to seize the opportunity for war and descruction.

We can no longer afford trekking the blooding path. For it only leave behind pain, suffering and destruction. The same is also true of our inaction and apathy. The step forward maybe slow, but at least we are moving in the right direction.

Today, we can make things happen. A future build on and learning from our past. A future with security and prosperity for all.

Kuta' Kastila' in Bongao

Kuta' Kastila' is a Tausog term for Spanish fort or garrison. Before the 60s, form here you have the full of Bongao Strait and Aguada Bay. Now, as one passes along Datu Halun St., towards the pier, nothing is visible. But if you enter the compound, the Day Care Center still shows its brick walls.

After the Spanish defeat, the garrison was occupied by the American forces. By the end of March, 1900, a regiment of the 23rd US Infantry occupied the garrison. The regiment left Jolo for service in Bongao on March 20, 1900.

In 1907, Florence Kimball Russel described what she saw in her book, "A Woman’s Journey Through the Philippines; On a Cable Ship that Linked the Strange Lands Seen En Route".

"Despite the fact of its remoteness from civilization, or perhaps because of it, we found Bongao most attractive. . . The garrison is situated on a mountainous spur of land running down steeply to the water. It is laid out like a park, the soldiers’ quarters, hospital, library, and storehouses being of bamboo and nipa, over which the men have trained vines and creeping plants, while before each door bloom beds of bright flowers."

"The officers’ quarters are built higher up on a wind-swept slope overlooking the bay, where it curves around the point of the island, and while these houses are picturesque from the outside, they are roughly finished within, the “banquet-hall,” as they dignified the mess, being especially al fresco. Over the extemporized sideboard, consisting of some rude shelves, on which were piled a heterogeneous collection of tinned fruits and vegetables, hung a motto which read “God Bless our Home. If you don’t like it, get out!” On the reverse side of this somewhat suggestive placard was the pleasing gastronomic intelligence, “Chicken today,” chicken forming the staple of diet at Bongao, as of course fresh meat is to be had only at the rarest intervals."

"There was but one company of infantry stationed at Bongao when we were there, comprising perhaps fifty men and three officers. Because of the two hundred miles of treacherous ocean between him and higher authority, the young captain acting as military governor was, so to speak, a small Czar, and he ruled an unique kingdom, untouched by civilization, and peopled entirely by ex-pirates or the descendants of pirates."

"The official letter-book of this functionary, at which he allowed us to peep, read like a story of adventure, while some of his own personal experiences, and those of the former commanding officer, seem almost incredible when away from the glamour of the place. In the post records, sandwiched between such mundane things as requisitions for water-buckets or commissary supplies, one would read of atrocious murders committed by the Moros; piratical expeditions headed off, and their instigators punished; or attempted slave-raids against some neighbouring island."

When the Americans left, it was occupied by the Philippine Marines. When the Marines moved inland, the area was occupied by civilians. While still a military garrison, the area houses Christian families of the military personnel. The Costelo family still lives in the same area and the Costelo Store is a local institution.

Today, Muslim and Christian families live as neighbors peacefully. Aside from the overgrown acacia trees, nothing is left of the Kuta' Kastila'.

"Fantastic......!" itulah ungkapan pelancong kepada kumpulan 'Pangalay Ha Agung' dari PSBS. Keunikan dan keasyikan tarian ini memukau ramai penonton di auditurium DBKL. Sesekali kedengaran tepuk dan sorak kemudian selepas itu mereka khusyu' melihat dan mendengar sendiri lisagan kulintangan dengan iringan pangalay yang lembut dan cantik. Pangalay Ha Agung merupakan persembahan pertama masyarakat Suluk di pentaskan di Auditurium DBKL. Selepas ini, pastinya akan menyusul lebih banyak lagi tarian Suluk akan ditampilkan. Antara yang boleh ditampil seperti tarian Tauti, Dalling- dalling Asli dan tidak salah kalau kita mempopularkan pula tarian- tarian dari Sulu (juga merupakan tarian tradisional Suluk) seperti Singkil, Suwa'- Suwa' dan tinikling.

Mami Kiang seorang pelopor budaya menyarankan agar tarian- tarian seperti pangalay ini diberi kariasi yang kreatif. Disamping itu ia perlu disusun dan dikemaskini dalam pelbagai sudut seperti kiraan langkah dan gerakan perlu diseragamkan dengan muzik agar nampak lebih bertenaga. Jika PSBS mahu pangalay ini melangkah lebih jauh, PSBS perlu bersedia untuk membuat transformasi lebih terhadap budayanya sendiri tanpa menghilangkan keaslian pangalay itu sendiri, tambah beliau.

Turut dipersembahkan pada malam itu kumpulan dari Sarawak (Hadrah) dan tarian Cina.

Food for Peace

On August 09, 2009 the Muslim Youth Movement an youth organization aiming for sustainable peace in development based in Western Mindanao State University in Zamboanga City, Philippines organized a 'Food for Peace' in Tetuan same city. As adviser of the group the writer felt satisfied to the little accomplishment.

Giving few foods to unfortunate children is something to be appreciated in the eyes of God.

Islamic Leadership and Governance
The author decided to open new blog entitled Islamic Leadership and Governance: Peaceful Solution to Sulu and Mindanao. The URL address is http://www.islamic-leadership.blogspot.com/. The aim of the new blog is to promote Islamic Leadership and Governance as peace tool to Sulu and Mindanao. After the finalization of the blog the author excited to post for publication and this was another little achievement for a non-expert writer like him.

Best Beach...

Sulu is known as the Island country of Southeast Asia. The white powder-like sands are exactly overwhelming and much better than other beaches in the Southeast Asia as I see. It is comparable to Sipadan Island and Mabul Island beaches as well as Boracay beach and Sulu Sunset sugar beach resort at Sipalay in the Philippines.

The name Igasan was derived from the name of the community leader around this area during the reign of the Sultanate of Sulu era.I remember in 2006, in a boat bound to Jolo from Bongao, there was a group of travelers and mountaineers who wanted to visit Igasan beach. I got befriend to one of them name Mikki then told me that they wanted to drop by Jolo and visit the beach.

They were actually looking for someone who was endorsed to them by their Tausug friend in Manila, Philippines. We walk through the streets in Jolo. I took them to round the town reaching as far as Capitol Hill, the administrative center of Sulu and the Jolo Airport.

Igasan beach is one of the popular beaches in Sulu. It is also known as Quezon beach in honor to the Philippine president Manuel L. Quezon when he swam here during his visit to the country around 1930’s. That is how Tausug honoring visitor when reaching their country.

Igasan beach is about 25 minutes from the town of Jolo in Sulu. It is found in Patikul [Patik All] town. People can hire a motorcab or Jeepney for a minimal and very affordable charge, especially to the backpackers. Igasan beach is far from being commercialized. People can simply relax here to experience the whispering breeze and the magnificent crystalline water.

If I remember right, one of them name Gio Sabio shouted, “Wonderful!” when he touches the sand and took pictures of the views here. And one of them, Angie Tan said “this is among the best beaches I had visited, I will tell my friends to come here, and hopefully I could come back”. A guest of Gio Sabio’s photo galleries commented that “this was the beach I was looking for!!!”

Do book your ticket at any airline agencies or take any available sea route from different places in the Philippines, like Cebu, Palawan, Iloilo, Bohol and Manila. Upon reaching Zamboanga City you can easily get the schedule of the trips to Sulu. You can go by air or by sea. In sea route from Zamboanga City takes 6 hours to reach port of Jolo when you take the regular boat.

If you want to reach Jolo early, you can either take the fast craft in a day for a few hours, that is fastest than the regular trip at night. Boat for Siasi Island and Bongao Island as well as Sitangkai Island is also available in a regular trip.

From Sabah State of Malaysia...

Do book ticket from any agencies to reach Sandakan from any places in Malaysia, like Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Sarahere is no passenger trip by sea route for Sandakan. From Sandakan purchase a ticket bound for Zamboanga City. The trip will take around 15 hours to reach Zamboanga City port, that is twice a week, every Monday and Thursday at around 4 PM.

There is also a trip of fast craft that is direct to Sulu if you wish. The fast craft will pass by Bongao to Jolo. You can take any motor cab for a minimal charge here to bring you to the affordable hotels and inns in the country. You do island hopping, mountain climbing and many more. The trip is also Monday and Thursday but early morning, around 7 AM. The port is in Karamunting, Leila Road, Sandakan.

Sulu Nation

“Tau” broadly means as “Nation” not just as “People” identical with the word “Bangsa” and “Sug” as "Sulu" thus Tausug is Sulu Nation not a single tribe or ethnic.

Simply people do not understand the wisdom and national concept of the word “Tausug” because of the effect of the colonial tactic of divide-and-rule by the enemies that reshaped the mind setting of the people living in Sulu – Sulu not just a single province it is country or nation-state.

People tend to think that there tribe is greater than the others – that is ethnocentrism. The truth is Sulu country or nation-state is composed of many different ethnic tribes living in its dominion.

Ethnocentrism is the result of the successful intervention of the enemies to topple down the strong force of Sulu to put barriers to its people. The time to revisit the historical, cultural, political and legal dome is coming – so people are no longer unaware to the incident that curtains their vision to fulfill their mission to achieve their self worth and identity of their Bangsa.

The Tausug [Bangsa Sug or Bangsa Sulu] has three groups based upon their residing places in Sulu Archipelago [Zamboanga, Sulu, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi and Sabah]; the Tau ha Higad, the Tau ha Gimba and the Tau ha Pu’.

First, The Tau ha Higad people inhabited the city or town. Second, the Tau ha Gimba people who dwell the hinterlands of Sulu, the farmers. The third one, the Tau ha Pu’ [islander], are those who are living in the islets and their main source of income is fishing.

This is what we called the Tausug Nation of the Sulu country.Tausug Nation composed of different ethnic tribes that include Buranun [now known as Tausug because of their dominant personalities], Sama-Bangingi-Badjao [sea expert], Yakan [Taguima], Dampuans, Banjar, Baklaya, Kalibugan [agriculturists] and others that had inhabited Sulu Archipelago including Ilanun.

Ketika United Tausug Citizens (UTC) war-warkan deklarasi Sulu Merdeka pada 2010 dalam internet, ramai yang terbeliak biji mata. Samada terbeliak kerana terkejut akan bahaya deklarasi tersebut pada diri mereka atau terbeliak kerana gembira tidak terkata. Deklarasi inilah yang ditunggu-tunggu selama ini. Tetapi ada juga yang tidak ambil peduli lantaran sibuk dengan perniagaan dan kesenangan hidup.

Maka terdapat tiga keadaan PASTI yang boleh diletak berdasarkan reaksi terhadap penerimaan Deklarasi Sulu Merdeka iaitu:

• Golongan Pertama: Takut terhadap pengisytiharan atau deklarasi Kemerdekaan Sulu.

• Golongan Kedua: Gembira dengan deklarasi Kemerdekaan Sulu.

• Golongan Ketiga: Tidak ambil peduli.

Sebelum dijelaskan satu-persatu tiga golongan yang disebutkan di atas, perlulah dimaklumkan bahawa artikel ini dibuat bukan untuk memecah-belahkan perpaduan Umat Nusantara (tanpa mengira agama, apatah lagi perpaduan umat Islam) atau melaga-lagakan pihak-pihak tertentu. Ia sekadar memberi penilaian seterusnya menjadi satu analisis yang perlu dimanfaatkan. Kerajaan Malaysia, Filipina dan Indonesiatermasuk Amerika Syarikat hingga hari ini masih tertanya-tanya apakah sebenarnyaTUJUAN UTAMA UTC dalam Deklarasi Kemerdekaan Sulu 2010 nanti? Sudah tentu ia melibatkan kepentingan semua pihak. Maka sebarang tindakan menghalang atau mempersetujui tindakan UTC tanpa mengkaji dengan memperhalusi sedalam-dalamnya, dibimbangi akan mendatangkan implikasi buruk.

Samada ia buruk atau baik ia bergantung kepada penilaian semua pihak yang merasakan diri mereka punya kepentingan terhadap sebarang TINDAK-TANDUK Sulu. Sebab itu segala yang berlaku di Sulu dari dulu (zaman perang Marcos Vs MNLF) hingga kini senantiasa menjadi perhatian adalah kerana kepentingan. Sepertimana kenyataan bekas Komander MNLF, Tuan Hj Zakaria "Kerry" Abdullah “there are no permanent friends or permanent enemies, only permanent interests”.

Penilaian Terhadap Golongan Pertama
Golongan pertama ini ialah mereka yang takut seterusnya tidak mahu dengan Deklarasi Sulu Merdeka samada 2010 atau sampai bila-bila pun atas sebab tertentu. Siapakah golongan pertama ini? Mereka ialah sebahagian kecil anggota atau bekas anggota Moro National Lebaretion Front (MNLF) iaitu para pemimpin atasan atau tertinggi mereka, sebahagian kecil anggota Moro Islamic Lebaretion Front (MILF),Kerajaan Filipina (pasti tidak setuju malah menentang secara ketenteraan),Kerajaan Malaysia (hanya sekiranya melibatkan kepentingan Sabah dan Sarawak),Kerajaan Indonesia (hanya sekiranya melibatkan 3 wilayah kuasa Maritim Sulu iaitu Kalimantan, Sulawesi dan Kepulauan Riau-Sumatera kerana dikira dalam SULU ZONE abad ke-17 & 18). Maka dapatlah disusun seperti berikut:
1. Moro National Lebaretion Front (MNLF) iaitu para pemimpin atasan atau tertinggi mereka.
2. Sebahagian kecil anggota Moro Islamic Lebaretion Front (MILF).
3. Kerajaan Filipina & para Gabernur Sulu (pasti tidak setuju malah menentang secara ketenteraan).
4. Kerajaan Malaysia & Sabahan (hanya sekiranya melibatkan kepentingan Sabah dan Sarawak).
5. Kerajaan Indonesia (hanya sekiranya melibatkan 3 wilayah kuasa Maritim Sulu iaitu Kalimantan, Sulawesi dan Kepulauan Riau-Sumatera kerana dikira dalam SULU ZONE abad ke-17 & 18).
Mengapa mereka termasuk dalam kelas golongan pertama? Penulis akan jelaskan kemudian.
Penilaian Terhadap Golongan Kedua
Golongan ini adalah yang paling gembira dengan Deklarasi Kemerdekaan Sulu berdasarkan sebab-sebab tertentu. Siapakah yang termasuk dalam golongan ini? Mereka ialah anggota atau bekas anggota MNLF yang tiada pangkat dan jawatan (silent majority), Rakyat Sulu yang miskin dan sederhana (silent majority), Rakyat Mindanao yang miskin atau sederhana (silent majority), Kerajaan Malaysia(sekiranya UTC tidak menuntut Sabah dan Sarawak, kerana Sarawak termasuk dalam SULU ZONE), Kerajaan Indonesia (sekiranya tidak melibatkan tuntutan terhadap wilayahnya dalam SULU ZONE), Kerajaan Brunei Darussalam (kerana kepentingannya terhadap Limbang), Kerajaan Singapura (kerana ingin besarkan wilayahnya oleh sebab itu kepulauan Riau-Sumatera akan menjadi target), Kerajaan Amerika Syarikat (kerana punya ikatan sejarah dengan Sulu antara 1900-an hingga 40-an serta kepentingannya terhadap Gold Bar Sulu termasuk kepentingannya terhadap telaga minyak di Laut Sulu kerana lebih besar dari rizab minyak Tanah Arab, dan juga longgokan emas tulin di sekitar perairan Jolo, ini disahkan oleh pelan setelit PETRONAS). Maka dapatlah disusun seperti berikut:
1. Anggota atau bekas anggota MNLF yang tiada pangkat dan jawatan (silent majority).
2. Rakyat Sulu yang miskin dan sederhana (silent majority).
3. Rakyat Mindanao yang miskin atau sederhana (silent majority).
4. Kerajaan Malaysia (sekiranya UTC tidak menuntut Sabah dan Sarawak, kerana Sarawak termasuk dalam SULU ZONE).
5. Kerajaan Indonesia (sekiranya tidak melibatkan tuntutan terhadap wilayahnya dalam SULU ZONE).
6. Kerajaan Brunei Darussalam (kerana kepentingannya terhadap Limbang).
7. Kerajaan Singapura (kerana ingin besarkan wilayahnya oleh sebab itu kepulauan Riau-Sumatera akan menjadi target).
8. Kerajaan Amerika Syarikat (kerana punya ikatan sejarah dengan Sulu antara 1900-an hingga 40-an serta kepentingannya terhadap Gold Bar Sulu termasuk kepentingannya terhadap telaga minyak di Laut Sulu kerana lebih besar dari rizab minyak Tanah Arab, dan juga longgokan emas tulin di sekitar perairan Jolo, ini disahkan oleh pelan setelit PETRONAS). Sulu adalah penyelamat untuk memulihkan kegawatan ekonomi dunia kepada AS sebab itu mereka katakan "Untuk menyelamatkan AS mesti kembali kepada ASIA".
Penjelasan terhadap golongan ini akan dijelaskan kemudian.

Penilaian Terhadap Golongan Ketiga
Golongan ini adalah yang tidak ambil tahu langsung dengan perkembangan di Sulu atau perkembangan kedatangan bahaya konspirasi antarabangsa terhadap ummah. Mereka ini adalah golongan dungu yang hanya mementingkan tali perut semata-mata. Hedonisma, nepotisma dan kapitalisma (tidak membayar zakat) serta bergelumang dengan politik dusta-rasuah dengan konsep TIADA BALA atau TIADA NERAKA adalah identiti mereka. Mereka adalah golongan kaya yang sibuk mengumpul harta serta golongan miskin yang melarat lantaran hanya duduk berdoa memohon bantuan Allah swt tanpa bekerja.

Mereka ini tiada jiwa perjuangan dan dayus. Merekalah yang terpilih dalam golongan manusia yang TIDAK MEMBELI TIKET untuk menaiki bahtera NABI NUH A.S. kerana sibuk dengan dunia. Malangnya inilah golongan MAJORITI di Malaysia dan Indonesia serta sebilangan manusia Muslim di Sulu dan Mindanao yang merelakan diri mereka diperalat dan menjadi tali barut kufar.

Konklusi UTC Terhadap Deklarasi Kemerdekaan

Kerajaan-kerajaan Nusantara tidak pernah menemubual atau berdialog secara langsung dengan UTC (Tausug United Citizens) di Sulu untuk mendapatkan kepastian atau sekurang-kurangnya dapat menjalinkan perhubungan muhibbah. Mereka tidak menghantar wakil setelah berita kemunculan UTC dengan kekuatan tersendiri dapat menggegarkan Jolo. Mendiamkan diri bermakna menunggu pihak lain mengambil kesempatan. Mengapa ini berlaku? Adakah kerana Sulu masih dalam proctorate & administrator Filipina lantaran negara lain tidak berani mengganggu "urusan dalaman" Manila? Sekurang-kurangnya Malaysia dan Indonesia dibantu Brunei dapat menyuarakannya dalam ASEAN atau OIC secara keras (mesyuarat tergempar) untuk mendengar apa yang dibawa oleh UTC. Malangnya mesyuarat tergempar akan hanya berlaku sekiranya UTC yang tidak bersenjata dibunuh beramai-ramai.

Mungkin yang diperlukan terlebih dahulu ialah jawapan kepada persoalan "Apakah pendirian UTC terhadap wilayahnya yang berada dalam tangan MAPHILINDO sekiranya mendapat kemerdekaan?" Malaysia dan Indonesia juga Filipina memerlukan jaminan kondusif dari pihak Tausug & Kesultanan Sulu, inilah turning-point nya. Dalam hal ini UTC sangat jelas tanpa dipengaruhi oleh sesiapa demi keamanan kepada semua, bahawa:

1. Sultan Sulu (Sultan Bantilan Muizuddin II) dan rakyatnya (UTC) tidak pernah mengklaim Sabah dan wilayah lain yang dianggap wilayah Sulu dalam SULU ZONE sebelum ini sebagai tuntutan UTAMA perjuangannya. Buktinya Sultan Bantilan digelar Sultan Of Sulu sahaja bukannya Sultan Of Sulu & North Borneo seperti mana gelaran Sultan-sultan cendawan sebelum ini. Kerana UTC berpandangan, sebarang tuntutan terhadap Sabah atau wilayah lain yang dianggap wilayah Sulu sebelum ini oleh Tausug & Kesultanan Sulu adalah sebenarnya boleh menyebabkan perpecahan ummah yang akhirnya gerakan UTC tidak mendapat bantuan dari umat Islam Nusantara.

2. UTC bergerak secara aman tanpa senjata dengan slogan "Tiada Keganasan", Tiada Peperangan" dengan meletakkan perjuangan UTAMA menuntut wilayah asal Tausug & Kesultana Sulu iaitu (Jolo, Basilan-Zamboanga, Tawi-Tawi, Palawan dan North Borneo).

3. Walau pun UTC ada menyebut North Borneo (Sabah) tetapi bukanlah untuk di klaim kerana Malaysia masih memegang amanah seperti yang termaktub dalam perjanjian pajakan North Boreno 1878 iaitu membayar RM 5,300 setahun.

Berikut adalah keputusan UTC berkenaan dengan isu Sabah,
1. UTC telah memutuskan dengan muktamad bahawa sebarang urusan yang melibatkan Sabah mestilah diselesaikan secara muhibbah dan persaudaraan seagama di meja rundingan selama mana Malaysia masih menjaga kepentingan-kepentingan rakyat Sulu di Sabah (rakyat Sulu yang tidak mengaku sebagai warga Filipina).

2. UTC hanya meminta Malaysia mengembalikan hak rakyat Sulu iaitu boleh keluar masuk berniaga ke Sabah tanpa terikat dengan Jus Soli kerana itulah peraturan antara Sultan Sulu dan Kompani British setelah pajakan 1878 yang telah dilupuskan setelah kemasukan Sabah ke persekutuan Malaysia 16 September 1963.

3. UTC meminta secara rundingan muhibbah dengan kerajaan Malaysia untuk menilai pembayaran pajakan SABAH yang dianggap PAMPASAN bernilai RM 5,300 setahun kepada satu nilai semasa yang difikirkan munasabah dan MASUK AKAL.

4. Segala rundingan secara muhibbah yang berkaitan dengan HAQ antara Malaysia dan UTC mestilah menggunakan hukum TUHAN (Al-Quran & Sunnah) yang dihadiri oleh Mufti masing-masing yang diletak lebih utama di atasInternational Law. Ini kerana setelah Sulu Merdeka, undang-undang Islam(berlandaskan Mazhab Imam Syafi'e) akan dilaksana dan dikuatkuasakan.
5. UTC akan menjalinkan hubungan Simbiotik dengan negara ASEAN tanpa sengketa dan peperangan.

Asas kepada kejayaan gerakan UTC ialah menyatukan semua umat Sulu samada mereka yang mengaku Moro (MNLF), Sulug, Bajau-Sama, Yakan, Kagayan, Kalibugan dengan gelaran TAUSUG. UTC memberi definasi bahawa istilah Tausug bermaksud, "Himpunan pelbagai suku kaum atau bangsa yang tinggal dibawah pemerintahan Kesultanan Sulu yang mana mereka menjadikan bahasa Sug sebagai bahasa Lingua-Franca maka mereka layak mendapat nama TAUSUG". Refugees Blog in Malaysia

Skim Penempatan Kampung Bahagia is a refugee’s community in Sandakan, Sabah. It was built in early 80's with the recognition of the UNHCR and Malaysian government. The settlers of this community are the Muslim refugees from Sulu and other parts of Mindanao who fled to Sabah during martial law in the 70’s.

The area is located in the industrial site of Sandakan, estimated 11 kilometres away from the city proper with the total land area of 47.7 acres. The number of peoples in Skim Penempatan Kampung Bahagia, based on the survey undertaken in 2005 is 5,527 with 939 numbers of houses.

The refugees in Skim Penempatan Kampung Bahagia became big asset to private companies in Sabah, Sandakan in particular. Most of them working in constructions, restaurants, plywood factories, palm oil industries and others.

The refugees are holding IMM 13 document which serves as visiting pass as well as became their permit to work in private companies in Sabah. Prior to the existence of IMM 13 as legal document for the refugees in Sabah there have many documents given by the government agencies to them such as, BANCI (Pasukan Petugas Khas), UPJKM or Burung-Burung and DAFTAR (Unit Penempatan di Jabatan Ketua Menteri)EXPO (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara)KAD POLIS (Polis Di Raja Malaysia), and SPECIAL PASS (Jabatan Imigresen). The refugees are thankful to the government for giving them these documents.

The source of income of the refugees in this community is taken from the sea such as as fishes, prawns, and crabs. These products catch by the fishermen through traditional style of fishing just within the periphery of Sandakan water. The caught fishes, prawns and crabs would be bought by purchasers and bring it as far as Lawas, Sabah. Aside from that another source of income of the refugees are running traditional businesses at home, like selling raw food such as fishes, rice, and other products that can answer the needs of the people even they would not go to town. With this sort of works the refugees were able to sustain the basic needs of their families for almost 30 years in Sandakan.

Lately, the Skim Penempatan Kampung Bahagia has given newly schools for the refugees’ children. This school named as Sekolah KAFA 3M. It accommodated 300 pupils every year from grade 1 to grade 6. The academic class starts on Monday and ends on Friday. While on Saturday and Sunday the religious class will take place. The curriculum of this school is inline with the educational system of Malaysia.

Skim Penempatan Kampung Bahagia also has one Mosque named Masjid Darussalam. This mosque is recognized as one of the Mosques legally established in Sabah. Any religious practices and festivals the residents of this community unanimously follow the verdict of the Sultan and Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM). There are times religious experts from JAKIM visited this mosque and gave sermon to the people.

Tausug and Blogging!

As a blogger I would like to greet in advance Happy 10 birthday to Blogger.com!

It really has contributing to humanity particularly in communication, business and many more. Way back to the pre-blogger era, only have computer knowhow who were able to publish their daily journals, hobbies, cultures, politics and even business to the world. This is only applicable in the developed country, whereas, in the third world only some, while the majority are still craving to have it.

Luckily, that problem has been answered with the advent of Blogging. Not to mention, the efforts being exerted by blogger.com in providing the easiest way for the people to own blog under their care. The friendly system of blogger.com has increasingly attracts more people to do blogging. The good example to that are the Tausug Bloggers and I am one of them.

Lately, serious efforts have been undertaken by the Tausug in promoting their cultures, history, tradition, belief and struggle through blogging. As citizen of the world, the Tausug bloggers are posting various ideas and opinions regarding the current event buzzing in the society most particularly the plight of their people. They use past occurrences as a tool to reckon for future solution.

In blogging, the Tausug bloggers mostly highlighting the problem being faced by their people be it they in the Philippines, Malaysia and other parts of the World. There are times they are interacting in a chat box, forum, and blog discussion on how to find the best possible way to solve the decades of conflict which they became a witness to. Perhaps, most of them could not anymore resist the undying longing to see peace and development in their homeland - Sulu.

Although most of the articles posted on the Tausug blogs are gratis the good things have been contributed by the Tausug bloggers to the World is awareness. The first hand information post daily by them on blog can enter to the rooms, offices, cafés and schools in the world without any difficulties, wasn’t it the great contribution? With the loom of blogging, we can now find more information about Sulu, its people, culture, tradition, food, recipes, literature, belief, philosophy, and struggle written by the children of the Tausug.

The art of blogging did introduce a new wave of change to the mindset of the Tausug. Being bloggers, it is our desire to promote the activity of blogging among the other children of the Tausug. We want them to explore and awake the world about the beauty of our homeland, arts, culture, tradition, language and belief through blogging or newly invented program similar to it in the future. We just hope as we pass through this stage in life they could continue promoting what we have started – blogging for the future.

This blog aims to provide access to the internet surfers to any topics posted in Tausug blogs. Once the readers visit this blog it’s up to them to choose what topic they like to.
